With over 3000 inhabitants, this beautiful island, which is called Statia by the locals, is one of the Windward Islands. In its’ long colonial history Statia was once called The Golden Rock in the days when over 3000 trade ships per year would dock in a harbour that could offer shelter to over 200 sailing ships at the same time. Today Statias’ harbours will be visited by ferries coming in from the neighbouring island of St. Martin.
